How The Rock Show Got Started...

Ten years ago... radio station KJIL in southwest Kansas took another leap forward in broadcasting contemporary Christian music to the great plains. Saturday nights featured programming for teenagers with rock music and a call-in talk show. The first rock song was actually from Ghoti Hook off of their "Sumo Surprise" album. The response was huge, and before long many other rock artists were asked for in the rock lineup.

In 2004, The Rock Show was programmed Saturday nights from 9pm to 1am central time, a live call-in show with requests, give-a-ways, and the best in Christian rock. It was carried in four states: stretching across almost all of Kansas, northwest Oklahoma, the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles, and eastern Colorado.

When KJIL decided to start its first online radio station, it targeted The Rock Show to carry it. In the summer of 2007, The Rock Show Online was born. Now on the air with the best in Christian Rock music, 24 hours a day and seven days a week, the Rock Show Online is your Christian music rock station on the internet.

Gabriel Peter

Ten years ago, there wasn't a vision for rock music on KJIL. There was a teen named Gabriel who was doing weekend voice tracks and decided he wanted to play what he thought the young people his age wanted to hear. When the ratings came out, Saturday night was a hit, and The Rock Show was born. In 2005, the Kansas Association of Broadcasters named him Radio Personality of the Year for his work on The Rock Show. As The Rock Show's founder, Gabriel remains the principle programmer. He also has his own band. Visit his website at www.gabrielpeter.com.
